In 1882, Edmonton/Strathcona was divided by Government survey into 45 lots using the river lot system - even numbers on the Edmonton side of the river and odd numbers on the Strathcona side. In 1906, Mr. Charles Morris, a dairy farmer from Lancashire, England, purchased lots no. 35 and 37. At this time the original Fort Edmonton was still standing. He built up a dairy farm called the Alberta Dairy and supplied milk to the City.

1928

His Homestead was completed in 1928 at which time the two rooms now used for guests were added and a porch and the sun lounge replaced the old veranda.

The farm was sold to the City during the Depression. It was divided into lots and built up. The barns were demolished. The front of the house became the back. A garage and balcony were added to what was now the new front.

Mr. Morris's children moved to Penticton, British Columbia and have told us much about their old home.

Despite its age the house is considered by the City to have a greater market value than the newer ones surrounding it!

The name Goodland comes from the apple tree growing in front of the house which produces a crop of excellent eating apples.
